Product imagery and background color
In e-commerce, the product is the hero — and the background color either supports or competes with it. White and near-white backgrounds (#F8F8F8 to #FFFFFF) create a neutral stage that lets product color read accurately and clearly at thumbnail scale. This is why most large marketplaces default to white product photography. Tinted backgrounds work for lifestyle positioning: a warm linen background communicates a different brand register than pure white, and can make the product feel more considered and editorial. The rule is that background tint should have lower chroma than the product — if the background is more saturated than the product, the product recedes and the background advances.
