Cultural significance

Teal bridges the organic warmth of green and the technical coolness of blue. In ancient Egypt, turquoise — the mineral that gives teal its earliest cultural form — was prized as a protective stone, adorning Tutankhamun's death mask. In Mesoamerican cultures, turquoise was more valuable than gold. In Japanese art, the color seiji-iro (celadon) appeared in prized Edo-period ceramics. Teal entered modern design language through mid-century Scandinavian furniture and healthcare interiors, where its calming properties reduce patient anxiety.
